RECOGNISING THE SKILLED HOSPITALITY TALENT- A Pathway to World Skills Competition

The India Skills competition for the Tourism and Hospitality Sector was conducted for 3 specific trades

1 Patisserie and Confectionery

2 Cooking

3 Restaurant Service

World Skills 2017 is to be held in Abu Dhabi from 14 – 19 October2017

Total 19 candidates were shortlisted for India Skills Competition i.e. 7 candidates from Cooking, 6 from Patisserie, and 6 from Restaurant Service.

Legendry Chef Satish Arora was appointed as Chairman of India Skills Competition along with the following jury members.

The world class training for these candidates to get ready to compete at the International level has already begun. They were all a part of the UK Skills competition held in Manchester from 27th March, 2017 – 1st April, 2017 where they were exposed to the International benchmarks and standards.

Apart from their official trainers, Team THSC is guiding and leading their training for them to be ready for the World Skills modules for their respective Trades. Chef Willment Leong from Thailand Culinary academy who has already been a part of many such competitions and was also on the board of the World Skills, conducted 3-day training for the Indian Candidates and shared with them the nuances in each of the trades. Chef Antonio Bachour, one of the ten best pastry chefs in America also conducted six-day hands on workshop. Master Chef Peter, from Australia also conducted training programme in chocolate.

These candidates are being trained and groomed in various aspects of the competition by Subject Matter Experts from their respective field.

With the hopes of the entire country on these Candidates to win medals at the World Skills 2017, the search for the next set of competition has already started. The popularity of the competitions and the trades will make them more desirable as careers and will encourage more people to take up skilling as a matter of choice.
